Section A updates

(This is AJ posting via e-mail...even though it looks like TSly posted. All email blog entries appear to belong to Tom. If you want to "own" your blog entry, log in to blogger.com directly.)

Hello,

The long-awaited day is finally here – it’s time to start sending Section A Updates!

A few things to remember when you send out your update:

  • Please keep your emails to a reasonable length (less than 500 words)
  • Feel free to attach photos, but please pay attention to the size of the attachments so you don’t clog inboxes
  • When you send out your email, it will post to the blog at the same time if you cc (see your e-mail for the new blog address) (formatting and subject should carry over, but you will need to go to the blog to upload any pictures that you would like to add – instructions for how to do so can be found at http://webmail.mba2006.hbs.edu/tsly/ATeam_Glue.pdf)
  • If you can’t send your update on the day you have been assigned, please either switch with someone else or send your update as close to your date as you can

Also, it is important to remember that your update email/posting can potentially be seen by anyone, so be thoughtful about what you say since we don’t want anyone to get dooced (definition: "Blogger Heather B. Armstrong coined the phrase in 2002, after she was fired from her Web design job for writing about work and colleagues on her blog, Dooce.com" (Source: Yahoo.com))

Please send your emails on the following days:

Subject: Section A updates

Section A,

I hope this email finds everyone well rested and enjoying the beginning of a great summer! In addition to the amazing Section A Blog that Tom put together, we also thought it would be fun if each person in our section sends out an update email this summer (500 words max!) to share what you’ve been up to and how your summer is going. In order to give this process some structure and to prevent our inboxes from exploding, I have assigned everyone a specific day to send your email. If all goes well, you should expect to receive two update emails a day between July 1st and Aug 13th. If the day you have been assigned doesn’t work for you, please either switch with someone else or send your update as close to your date as you can. These updates are completely voluntary, but do you really want to be “that guy” who doesn’t keep in touch with the section this summer?

Ideas of what to include in your email:

  • Where are you?
  • Travel stories or future travel plans
  • Relationship/family update (are you engaged? in a new relationship? newly single? pregnant?)
  • Funny stories
  • Lessons learned

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Alexandra
